Aelius goe Cantius
A young soldier born and reared during the imperial conquest of Landis, was promised everything—education, training, citizenship—in exchange for unwavering loyalty. However, his loyalty to the Empire hasn't brought him much other than pain and humiliation.

do not

I dislike being pressured or pestered into erotic roleplayer , so I do not engage. I will block you if you persist, and Lord knows I have no qualms about blocking people. Please respect this rule, I will not tolerate anyone who doesn't. I also will not tolerate metagaming of any kind. Just because you read his carrd, doesn't mean you know anything about Aelius or his classified past without my explicit consent.

anti-fascism

I refuse to tolerate racism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, or ableism. I refuse to tolerate bigotry in my personal space, and I will not tolerate it among my role-playing partners. This includes real life fascist ideologies as well.
I don't support real life fascism in any form. So don't come at me with this bullshit. Just because I roleplay a Garlean sympathizer, doesn't mean that I, the player, is a fascist. I'm just here to tell a story.

no minors

Please, no minors (21 and up), no power-gaming, info-gaming, or metagaming! Especially in combat scenarios. I prefer to roll for initiative d20-style or /dice 100. If your character is the all-powerful and all-knowing kind of individual, please refrain from interacting with me.

consent

OOC communication is essential in this collaborative hobby. Please contact me if you have any concerns about me or my portrayal of Aelius.
Furthermore, please do not initiate open IC conflict with Aelius simply because he half-garlean and your OC has issues with Garleans, unless you have discussed a roleplay hook with me and/or obtained prior consent from me OOC. Consent is extremely important to me as a roleplayer, and far too many roleplayers disregard consent for their own self-gratification.

ic ≠ ooc

ic ≠ ooc  is a major rule of mine. roleplay is merely a social hobby for me and while i enjoy this hobby immensely, i'm not my character. my character's ic sentiments do not reflect my own and vice-versa.  i also do not accept the concept "it's what my character would do" as an acceptable exemption for breaking common courtesy.

contact

If you want to contact me, you can do so in-game or on Discord: rosethrawn. Just be sure to introduce yourself before randomly messaging me. I am not afraid to use my block button. Nevertheless, feel free to contact me so we can roleplay together, plot, and chat. Also, it's a bonus if you like to do content.

PORTRAYAL NOTES

  • Despite the fact that he is not Garlean, Aelius remains strongly devoted to the Empire. This is the result of his previous years as a child soldier, as well as his father's assassination by his fellow Landisians.Although his father was a pureblooded Garlean, he was a Populares who believed in treating everyone equally. Despite his father's earnest convictions, Aelius lost him because to the very people he previously advocated for. His father's death instilled in him a loathing for people who despise Garleans.

BIOGRAPHY

the son's bitter wrath Aelius' father, Lucius, a proud Garlean noble, believed that partnership with the Empire was the most peaceful way for Landis to survive, despite the division and discontent it generated among the people. He was a Populares, a Garlean Empire sub-faction opposed to the more conservative Optimates party, which represents the interests of Garlemald's masses and seeks provincial policy reforms. Aelius' father thought that all people were born equal and intended to spread such concepts to other provinces in order to establish unity among other nations' populations and the Empire. However, Lucius' hopes and his life were cut short when an enraged sect of Mage-Knights murdered him in cold blood. When Lucius died to protect his son, this set off a series of unfortunate events to follow for poor Aelius.Aelius lost his father in the tumult and watched as the peace Garlemald promised Landis crumbled. His mother, Lote, was also a Mage-Knight of Landis, but she had little influence over her companions who intended to drive the Garleans out. Lucius' death sparked a new wave of discord among the people, forcing the Empire to strike down. After the Mage-Knights violently took over the capital, Legatus Basch van Gabranth was compelled to administer a heavy blow to them and banish them from Landis. Aelius was mistakenly separated from his mother during the insurrection and abducted by the Garlean military.Following his father's death at the hands of his countrymen, Aelius grew bitter and resentful, believing his father deserved more. Aelius promised to make the Landisians honor him and his father's legacy by joining the Garlean military and holding his countrymen responsible for his father's death. Aelius rose through the ranks of the Garlean military, frequently volunteering for perilous tasks that other conscripts avoided out of fear. This gained Aelius considerable renown among his fellow conscripts and, more importantly, the attention of Basch van Gabranth and his son, Noah van Gabranth, who would shortly succeed him.

Magitek Pilot

  take to the skies
Is your character a fellow Magitek pilot? If so, whom did they serve and why? Maybe they are a magitek engineer instead? If that's the case, Aelius might be willing to engage them in conversation. While his past is a little shady, Aelius gets along well with other characters who often take to the skies. He genuinely dislikes being grounded for too long. Aelius place is among the clouds.

  looking for a tune up
Aelis possesses a vintage Gabriel α prototype from the Garlean Empire's conquest of Dalmasca. While he has done his best to keep the old girl afloat, Aelius is truly in need of the assistance of a skilled mechanic. While he would be honestly a little hesitant to trust anyone with his darling mech, Aelius could be convinced if the price is right.

Half-Breed

  an unwelcomed child
Being a half-breed is a contentious issue, even in Eorzea. People with parents of two different races account for a small percentage of the global population. Aelius is one among them, and given the contentious nature of Garlean culture, he did not have an easy upbringing. As a half-Garlean, Aelius is despised by both Garlean society and others. While Lote did her best to raise her son despite societal constraints, there was only so much the young mother could do to soften the blow of criticism.

  sins of the father
It goes without saying that Lucius fae Cantius was a popular figure in Landis but a contentious one in imperial Garlemald. While he strove for peace and prosperity for all peoples, he remained a Garlean who benefited from the Empire's expansion into the neighboring nations. While the Populares are widely seen as the lesser of two evils in Garlean governance, they continue to reflect the interests of the vast majority of the imperial populace.

separatist

  misguided loyalty
Aelius' unwavering commitment to the Empire originates from his affection for his father and the current political situation in Landis. Since the Empire lost control of the erstwhile Republic, all hell has broken loose. Landis has enjoyed relative peace and prosperity under Garlean governance for the past three decades. Now that authority has ended, Mannatheihwo's erstwhile mage-knights have returned as provisional warlords. With so many individuals aiming for power, Aelius has grown resentful and is concerned for Landis' future.

  the interim government
As Landis descends into tribal conflict, Aelius grows increasingly dissatisfied with the Interim Republic here in Garlemald. He does not believe in the power of the Senate or its senators because of the fighting he has witnessed firsthand on the Senate floor. It also doesn't help that most of Garlemald is still in despair and decay, a year or so after the fabled Final Days. While Landis was spared the apocalypse, the nation is still in desperate need of proper leadership. This is what drives Aelius' actions.

MAGE-KNIGHT

  his mother's legacy
Aelius' mother is a former Mage Knight from Mannatheihwo. Aelius learned everything he knows about Sword Arts from her. Lote is a revered "Sword Saint" warrior who has trained to be an incredibly strong physical attacker with a high aptitude for both greatswords and sorcery. Aelius frequently conceals his magical ability while among Garleans, but he is known to use magick as a means to subdue and defeat foes. Mage-Knights are similar to Red Mages but are less squishy in terms of defense.
